Match No. 602 - Sunday, 9th June 1985, 12:00pm

  • "...Mexico took the lead with a goal cleverly created and well taken...Espana's run left Sansom stranded near the half-way line and there was no cover on the right as Flores collected his pass, cut in, and beat Bailey with a narrow-angled shot in off the far post." Luis Flores, 20'19:35

Notes

  • Tournament InfoOriginally intended to be a four team competition, the Copa Ciudad de Mexico reverted to a three team competition when Germany were unable to make it before the tournament started, arriving on the 11th June. England, Italy and Mexico played out the tournament whilst another three team tourament was scheduled for England, Mexico and Germany. All matches were played at the Estadio Azteca and the tournament was named after that. Instead of England playing Mexico twice the decision was made for one game to cover both.
