Samuel Weller Widdowson
Born: 16th April 1851, Hucknall Torkard, Nottinghamshire
Died: 9th May 1927, Beeston, Nottinghamshire aged 76
Position whilst with England: Centre Forward
- Served on the FA Committee 1888-92 and 1893-94. Captained Nottingham Forest for several seasons. Invented and patented the shinguard in 1874 by cutting down a pair of cricket pads and strapped them inside his stockings. Later became a referee.
