Federaţia Română de Fotbal
Founded: 1909
Federation: UEFA
- Romania's first game came against Yugoslavia in 1922 and were one of only four European teams to make the 15-day voyage to Uruguay to participate in the first World Cup in 1930.
Romania has an excellent record against England, one of only five teams to have a better head-to-head record (The others being Italy, Brazil, Uruguay and Netherlands).
The first match between the two occurred in 1939 and was the last match England played for 6 and a half years as the Second World War intervened.
The first competitive meeting was in the 1970 World Cup in Mexico when England won 1-0 thanks to a Geoff Hurst goal. Since then all but one of the seven encounters have been competitive and none have been won by England.
