- His career started at Sheffield United in 1890 but he rarely saw the first team. Then a brief stint at Rotherham Town but he returned to Sheffield in December 1893 to force his way into the first team where he made over 250 appearances in over ten seasons including a Cup Final in 1899. Moved to Bristol City as player/manager in May 1904 and then just as manager in 1905 until 1910 winning the Second Division championship on the way in 1906 and reaching the FA Cup final in 1909. In later life he was the licencee at a Trowbridge pub and he managed to ballon to a massive 26 stones at the time of his death.
