  • Hawley was a late replacement for the 1874 Scotland match when John Wylie became unavailable. He became the first Treasurer of the FA of Wales when it formed in 1876 and played in their first match in 1876 against Scotland. He was founder and captain of the Shropshire Wanderers as well as playing minor counties cricket for Shropshire. He won the FA Cup with Wanderers in 1876. Professionally he was a solicitor and was Clerk of Shrewsbury Magistrates Court from 1874 until his death which occurred whilst convalescing from a throat infection at Old Colwyn.
