Alf Common (25th May 1880 - 3rd April 1946) was an international footballer who represented England 3 times scoring 2 goals. Alf Common was the first man to be transferred for a fee of £1,000 in 1905 when Middlesbrough bought him from Sunderland. He also represented Sheffield Utd, Woolwich Arsenal and Preston North End. After his career ended in 1914 he ran several pubs in the Darlington area.
