Joe Beverley (12th November 1856 - 21st May 1897) was an international footballer who represented England 3 times scoring 0 goals. His first cap was against Ireland on 23rd February 1884 at 27 years old, and his last was vs Wales on 17th March 1884 aged 27. Beverley, born on 12th November 1856, in Blackburn, has a FA Legacy Number of 110 and played as a Left Back for his country.
Notes:
Beverley played for both Blackburn Olympic and Blackburn Rovers twice in his career. His first stint was at Olympic from 1878-1882 before moving to Rovers from 1882 to 1884 where he won the FA cup on 1884. He returned to Olympic for three seasons (1884-1887) before again going back to Rovers for another two years (1887-1889) and played in the inaugural league season - Rovers being founder members of the football league. His caps for England coincided with the inaugural season of the Home Championship too, he played all three games in the first season.
Beverley was tragically killed at Albion Mill, Blackburn whilst repairing a mill engine. His skull was fractured in three places. He was 40 years old.
