Francis Hornby Birley

Died: 1st August 1910, Lingfield, Surrey aged 60

- Birley won the FA Cup with Oxford University in 1874 and captained Wanderers in their 1876 and 1877 FA Cup wins. He was originally selected to win his third cap for England as captain for the 1876 Scotland game but was unavailable for reasons unknown. Played cricket for Lancashire, Surrey and minor county Cheshire. A Barrister by profession, called to the bar at Inner Temple in January 1876.
