Alf was born in Walsall in early 1861 and had an career with all three Walsall teams. He started at walsall swifts and joined Great Lever in August 1882 but was back at Walsall Swifts in June 1883. He had a brief stint at Aston Villa in season 1885-86, Burnely for a month in 1886. He return to Walsall this time with Walsall Town from 1886 to 1888 and then for the amalgamated team Walsall Town Swifts until 1890.
