His only cap was against Scotland on 4th March 1876 at the age of 20. Buchanan, born on 1st June 1855, in Hornsey, London, has a FA Legacy Number of 42 and played as a Forward for his country.

Not much is known about Walter Scott Buchanan life, only that he played for Clapham Rovers but left that club prior to its appearances in the 1879 and 1880 Cup Finals. However, it is most certain that he was born in Islington in 1855, married in Brentford in 1908 and died in Hammersmith in 1926.
