Notes:
Joined the Royal Engineers in October 1873 and eventually became chief engineer in Ireland for four years from 1906 before retiring. He re-enlisted in 1914 for World War I and was involved at the Battle of Loos in 1915, the first day of the Somme in 1916 and commanded the 46th Division when it broke the Hindenburg Line in 1918.
