Claude Wilson (9th September 1858 - 29th June 1881) was an international footballer who represented England 2 times scoring 0 goals. His first cap was against Wales on 18th January 1879 at 20 years old, and his last was vs Scotland on 12th March 1881 aged 22. Wilson, born on 9th September 1858, in Banbury, Oxon, has a FA Legacy Number of 58 and played as a Full Back and
Left Back for his country.
Notes:
After attending Brighton College, Wilson went up to Oxford where he won blues in three successive years from 1878. Whilst there he impressed the England selectors in his first year, called up to play against Wales. The following year his Oxford University were runners-up in the FA Cup, and he received his second cap the following March against Scotland. He also had a promising cricket career, playing in two first-class matches for Oxford University and Surrey in early June 1881 before he tragically died from sunstroke whilst playing cricket in Betchworth, near Reigate on 29th June.
