  • Jack started his career with Blackburn Olympic as a teenager before playing with Blackburn Rovers where he won two FA Cup winners’ medals in 1890 and 1891. He moved to Everton for £400 in August 1893 but had to retire from the game due to injury in the 1894-95 season. He played just 139 games for both Rovers and Everton but managed to notch up an incredible 139 goals and surely would have made more than the miserly three caps (and naturally three goals) for England had it not been for injury and the talents of John Goodall and GO Smith who kept him out the team. A professional violinist who regularly played with the Hallé Orchestra in Manchester. He also appeared in one English League match against the Scottish League in 1893.
