Norman Bailey (23rd July 1857 - 13th January 1923) was an international footballer who represented England 19 times scoring 2 goals. His first cap was against Scotland on 2nd March 1878 at 20 years old, and his last was vs Scotland on 19th March 1887 aged 29. Bailey, born on 23rd July 1857, in Streatham, London, has a FA Legacy Number of 53 and played as a Half Back and Centre Half for his country.
Notes:
One of the early stars of the game, Bailey was capped 19 times, a then record. He also captained the side 15 times, a record that would stand until 1913. Educated at Westminster School, he turned out for Old Westminsters, Clapham Rovers, Wanderers, Swifts and Corinthian. He was an FA Cup runner-up with Clapham Rovers in 1879 and the next year helped them one better to win the competition. He served on the FA Committee 1882-1884 and as vice-president from 1887-1890. A solicitor by profession.
