Played for Harrow School before going up to Cambridge University, representing them 1876-1878 with a stint as captain in 1877. On the FA Select Committee 1876-78. He also played for Old Harrovians. Ordained in 1878 and spent most of his career in Lincolnshire where he occasionally turned out for Grantham Town.
